Gateshead Young Writers’ Programme
A summary of activity, outcomes and learning from 2019-2021
The Gateshead Young Writers’ programme introduces young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Gateshead to creative writing and provides progression routes for those who find a talent or interest to develop creatively.
Between 2019-2021, over 900 young people from Gateshead participated in the programme, which produced 36 creative outputs, including poetry anthologies, audio dramas, music videos and a celebration event (Inside Outside) at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in January 2020.
The programme was evaluated by Dr Anni Raw. This programme summary presents the key findings and observations from Dr Raw’s evaluation (full report downloadable here).
The three-year programme of activity was funded by the Kavli Trust, who continue to support our work with young people in Gateshead.
