Our work in schools
Our award winning Young Writers Programme brings professional writers artists into partner schools, working year round with pupils, supporting them to tell their own stories, be creative with words and improve their confidence and wellbeing.
We currently work with primary and secondary pupils in the following partner schools:
- Callerton Academy, Newcastle
- Cheviot Primary School, Newcastle
- Excelsior Academy, Newcastle
- Kelvin Grove Primary School, Gateshead
- Larkspur Community Primary School, Gateshead
- Simonside Primary School, Newcastle
Classroom sessions introduce pupils to creative writing with sessions on songwriting, rap, playwrighting, writing for screen, poetry, prose and performance. In extracurricular workshops and and intervention groups in school work with writers to develop thier artistic voice and make original artworks that share thier own voices and experiences.
Each Young Writers City partnership programme is led by a Creative Producer who tailors the programme to the school community and gets to know pupils, supporting their development as individuals.
