Maya Jordan

Non-fiction, memoir, magical realism, historical fiction, storytelling.

Maya Jordan is an award-winning writer, storyteller and holder of sacred women’s circles. Her memoir, Chopsy – Resistance Tales of a Working-Class Woman will be published by September Publishing in February 2026. With a Masters in Creative Writing from The Open University, her work has appeared in a number of national magazines and journals and for two years she wrote a fortnightly column for The Mirror’s Lemon-Aid Parenting.

Maya writes non-fiction, fiction and children’s fiction. In 2022 an extract of her novel was performed by Michael Sheen for BBC Wales St Davids Day – Margins to Mainstream, as well as a live performance at the Royal College of Music in Cardiff. A natural storyteller, she has performed a selection of non-fiction and children’s stories at the House of Commons, festivals, food fairs, schools, and art galleries.

She has taught creative writing in the community, working with adults and young people. A regular blogger, she writes at Bordering Grey – Writings on Life, Going Grey at the Borders, sharing thoughts on everyday life as a 21st century woman, as well as writer interviews with writers that she loves.

A neurodiverse, feminist, proudly working-class writer, she is passionate about access to the arts for all, especially those disadvantaged or marginalised in society, and believes we all have stories to share. Currently working on a second novel as well as a book of meditations for women, she is also still painfully, slowly trying to learn Welsh.

Maya was part of the 2021-22 cohort of A Writing Chance.

“A curse on being ordinary! Wrong is not her name. Her name is Maya Jordan. She is a noisy woman, and we should fear her.”

— Michael Sheen
