Shivani Daxini is a writer, journalist and anthropologist. Her PhD at Durham University, where she also teaches, is funded by the Economic and Social Research council, and she is currently in the final phase of writing whilst in Santiago, Chile as a visiting researcher.

Her doctoral fieldwork involved a year conducting ethnography in India exploring the impact of Uber and its rival apps on Bangalore’s auto-rickshaw drivers.

She has also conducted research with India’s ‘Silicon Valley’ tech graduates who work for some of the most well-known global brands and companies, exploring what is often, invisible but essential labour.

Shivani is working on allowing her writing to find its way into the public domain through fiction, non-fiction and other shorter freelance pieces.

Shivani was part of the 2024/25 cohort of A Writing Chance, on the Daily Mirror strand.
