Sophie Underwood

Nature, speculative, fantasy fiction, narrative non-fiction, short story.

Sophie Underwood is a writer and teacher based in the North East of England. She has lived off-grid for over a decade and writes about life in a remote woodland cabin, foraging, fungi, and folklore on her Substack, All The Wild Magic. A deep connection to the natural world runs through all of Sophie’s writing, from her fantasy fiction to her narrative non-fiction.

She has been shortlisted for a Northern Writers’ Award and received a scholarship to attend the Faber Academy. A piece of her short fiction will be published by Little Toller and Bluemoose Books in the anthology Give Peat a Chance later in 2025, and her non-fiction will appear in The Bee magazine. Her poetry is published in issue #4 of Clarion.

Sophie is currently working on a duology of epic fantasy novels, and a genre-blending work of narrative non-fiction. She is represented by Amandeep Singh at the Graham Maw Christie literary agency.

Sophie was part of the 2024/25 cohort of A Writing Chance, on the Substack strand.
